Notes: This course will meet Tuesday and Thursday evening from 1800-2100 at Vernon Fire. It will also meet on the following Saturdays from 0900-1700 at VEMSA in Newfane 5/16, 6/6, 6/13 and 6/27

The Emergency Medical Responder(EMR) course prepares the student to provide prehospital assessment and care for patients of all ages with a variety of medical conditions and traumatic injuries. Areas of study include an introduction to emergency medical services systems, roles and responsibilities, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, medical emergencies, traumatic injuries, special considerations for working in the prehospital setting, and providing patient transportation.

Course ObjectivesAt the completion of this course the student shall be able to:

Describe the role of aEMR in the health care system.

Demonstrate the professional attributes expected of anEMR.

Perform the roles and responsibilities of anEMRregarding personal safety and wellness, as well as the safety of others.

Perform the duties of aEMR with regard for medical-legal and ethical issues, including functioning under medical direction and within the scope of practice.

EMRs perform basic interventions with limited equipment
